McTimoney Chiropractic

Available from Gary Jones

The McTimoney method of chiropractic was developed by the late John McTimoney over 50 years ago and is taught only at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic based in both Abingdon, near Oxford and Manchester.  It is well known for being a precise, whole body approach to chiropractic care.

The gentle nature of the McTimoney method makes it especially suitable for people of all ages and is effective in alleviating back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, sciatica, some sports injuries, arthritic pain, preventing migraines and much more.

What is chiropractic

The World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) states: “Chiropractic is a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation”.

Chiropractors focus on the spine and the neuro-musculoskeletal system and how conditions affecting these areas can affect your health and performance. Chiropractors are trained to assess the neuro-musculoskeletal system and identify restrictions, imbalances and dysfunction. Our package of care involves spinal and peripheral joint adjustments and mobilisations, application of soft tissue treatment and advice on exercise, self-help, diet and lifestyle where appropriate. Some chiropractors offer rehabilitation programmes.

Chiropractors do not use medicines or surgery and the gentle manual approaches we use are extremely safe and comfortable to receive.

A package of chiropractic care is used regularly to help maintain good posture, promote health and improve performance, no matter what it is you do, from a high performance athlete to a senior member of the community enjoying a potter in the garden.

Patients undergoing chiropractic care often report benefits from:

  • Ankle sprain (short term management)
  • Cramp
  • Elbow pain and tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck, but not isolated occurrences
  • Headache arising from the neck (cervicogenic)
  • Inability to relax
  • Joint pains
  • Joint pains including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis as an adjunct to core OA treatments and exercise
  • Back Pain
  • Generalised aches and pains
  • Lumbago
  • Mechanical neck pain (as opposed to neck pain following injury i.e. whiplash)
  • Migraine prevention
  • Minor sports injuries and tensions
  • Muscle spasms
  • Plantar fasciitis (short term management)
  • Rotator cuff injuries, disease or disorders
  • Sciatica
  • Shoulder complaints (dysfunction, disorders and pain)
  • Soft tissue disorders of the shoulder

What to expect?

Initial Consultation:

During your initial consultation we will ask you about your symptoms, medical background and lifestyle.  The chiropractor will perform a thorough examination including orthopedic, postural and neurological tests as appropriate.  This enables the chiropractor to make an accurate assessment prior to carrying out any chiropractic adjustments.

The chiropractor will not routinely use x-rays. On occasion, your chiropractor may discover an underlying medical condition and, if necessary will refer you to your GP for further investigation.

Your initial consultation and first treatment will typical last between 60 and 90 minutes, further followup treatments typically last between 15 to 30 minutes.

Number of Treatments:

Typically people notice a change in their condition after two to six treatments.  These are initially at weekly intervals and then more widely spaced as the adjustments hold and the body responds to treatment. The elderly, or those with more chronic conditions, often require more treatment sessions.

Once the problem has been resolved, regular check-ups are recommended to keep your body functioning well.

Flexible appointments evenings and weekends
First appointment £60 – 85 mins
Subsequently £45 – 40 mins

About Gary

I’m Gary. I’m here to help you find your way to movement without pain so you can carry on enjoying your life. As a McTimoney Chiropractor I give gentle treatments that benefit the whole body. I’m based here at Hits the Spot Natural Health and Back Care Centre in Corse near Newent, Gloucester, Leadbury and Tewkesbury.

  • Do you enjoy gardening, walking, playing golf or horse riding?
  • Are you finding it hard t do the things you love?
  • You know exercise is god for you but it’s becoming painful?
  • Are you worried that it will get even more difficult to do what you really want to do?

We all live busy lives, sometimes the pressure and strains can have a negative effect on our body. How we sit and how we move, can cause imbalance and pain. Pain, is a way of your body telling you that something needs to change. Poor posture and movement patterns are usually a long time in the making, the McTimoney technique will gently rebalance your body.

I experienced chiropractic after injuring my back in the early 1990’s after an accident. From that one treatment it created a dream of becoming a chiropractor and helping people in pain. This ambition never left me, which I fulfilled 25 years later. I continue to have chiropractic care, because it helped me to maintain a better quality of health and wellbeing.

I love the gentle chiropractic adjustments which can rapidly relax muscles, improve alignment and increase mobility. No matter what your age, or the intensity and length of your problem, chiropractic could benefit you.

I am registered with the General Chiropractic Council.
