What is aromatherapy massage?
Aromatic plants have been used by humankind since the dawn of time for the fragrant oils they contain, originally for culinary and religious as well as medicinal purposes. These natural oils are extracted by distillation for use as botanical remedies that are absorbed by inhalation and through the skin, making them ideal for use in ointments, compresses, baths and, of course, massage. Each oil possesses distinct therapeutic properties and the art as a practitioner is in achieving a blend of appropriate essences to suit your needs as an individual.
Treatments involve applying oils through massage, a form of therapeutic touch; again, one of the oldest and simplest of all medical treatments, this works on the soft tissues of the body, manipulating, stretching and easing muscles and bringing a feeling of relaxation on every level. During the treatment, every effort is made to help you feel comfortable and secure, and a calm and peaceful environment is encouraged where an atmosphere of trust and respect can naturally develop.
Who is it for?
The combination of massage and aromatherapy that is offered can be used to great effect to strengthen the body's natural healing forces and both promote and maintain good health. Physically, it improves the circulation of both blood and lymph, encourages better breathing and respiration, tonifies the nervous system, aids digestion, and alleviates stiffness, aches and pains around joints and in muscles and connective tissues. In this way it works holistically to help prevent disease and slow degenerative processes. On a mental/emotional level, treatments can ease stress and anxiety, conveying a sense of well-being and harmony; the deep sense of relaxation that results can manifest as increased vitality and enhanced body function, adding to an overall greater enjoyment of life.
Anyone who wants to proactively maintain a healthy lifestyle could include aromatherapy massage in their regime!
